김민지, 첼로
첼리스트 김민지는 2003년 미국 아스트랄 아티스트 내셔널 오디션에서 우승하면서 미국 무대에 데뷔하였다. 만 16세에 한국예술종합학교에 영재로 입학, 2000년 졸업과 동시에 도미하여 뉴 잉글랜드 콘서바토리에서 석사, 전문 연주자 과정 및 최고 연주자 과정을 전액 장학생으로 졸업하였으며, 2005년 프랭크 헌팅턴 비비 장학금 수여자로 선정되어 프랑스 툴루즈 콘서바토리 최고 연주자 과정을 졸업하였다.
국내에서 동아일보, 중앙일보, 한국일보, 조선일보 콩쿠르에서 모두 1위로 입상하였고 난파콩쿠르, KBS 신인음악콩쿠르에서는 대상을 차지하였다. 또한 세계적인 엠마누엘 포이어만 국제 첼로 콩쿠르에서 전세계적으로 오직 12명만이 초청된 참가자 중 한국인 최초로 장학금을 수여 받았고, 프리미오 아르투로 보누치 국제 첼로 콩쿠르 2위, 아담 국제 첼로 콩쿠르 3위, 허드슨 밸리 현악 콩쿠르, 뉴 잉글랜드 콘서바토리 현악 콩쿠르, HAMS 국제 첼로 콩쿠르 등에서 모두 1위에 입상하고 우승자 특전으로 음반을 발매했을 뿐만 아니라 어빙 클라인 국제 현악 콩쿠르에서는 1위 입상과 함께 위촉작품 특별상을 거머쥐었다. 필라델피아 킴머, 트리니티 센터, 보스턴의 조단 홀, 가드너 박물관 등 여러 곳에서 독주 및 협연 무대를 가졌으며, 시카고 마이러 헤스 콘서트 시리즈, WMFT 시카고 라디오에 라이브 리사이틀이 방송되었다.
해든필드 심포니, 허드슨 밸리 심포니, 마린 심포니, 산타 크루스 심포니, 산타 로사 심포니, KBS 교항악단, 서울시향, 수원시향, 원주시향, 인천시향, 청주시향, 군산시향, 충남도립교향악단, 대구MBC 교향악단, 강남 심포니 오케스트라 등 국내 외 주요 오케스트라에 초청되어 솔리스트로서의 빈틈없는 행보를 거듭하였으며 예술의전당이 주최한 베토벤 전곡 시리즈에 발탁되어 김대진이 이끄는 수원시향과의 협연 하였으며 세계적인 피아니스트 한동일과 베토벤-브람스 전곡시리즈, 차세대의 대표주자로 꼽히는 피아니스트 김태형과의 전국 투어 리사이틀을 성공적으로 완주하고 러시아의 떠오르는 별인 일리야 라쉬코프스키와 리사이틀을 성황리에 개최하는 등의 활발한 연주활동을 펼치는 한편, 교향악축제에 초청되어 청주시향과 협연하며 솔리스트로서의 입지를 재확인 시켜주었다.
김민지는 로린마젤이 이끄는 스페인 레이나 소피아 오케스트라의 부수석(아시아 최초) 및 예술의전당 페스티벌 오케스트라 수석을 역임 하였으며 올해 만 38세의 나이로 서울대 기악과 교수로 임용되어 현재 서울대학교 교수로 재직하며 첼리스타 첼로 앙상블 수석 및 오푸스 앙상블 멤버로 활동하고 있다.
Min Ji Kim, Cello
Cellist Minji Kim made her U.S debut after winning the 2003 Astral Artists National Audition in U.S. She entered the School for the Gifted in Arts, Korea National University of Arts when she was 16, and after graduating in 2000, she graduated from New England Conservatory after completing her Master of Music, G.D and D.M.A, receiving full scholarship. She received the Frank Huntingtun Beebe Fund for Musicians in 2005, and graduated from Toulouse Conservatory of Music in France with an Artist Diploma.
She won first prize in Dong-A Ilbo, Joong-ang Ilbo, Korea News and Chosun Ilbo competitions, and grand prize in Nanpa Competition, and KBS New Musicians Competition. She was also the first Korean to receive scholarship after being invited to Emanuel Feuermann International Cello Competition, where only 12 musicians all over the world were invited. She won second prize at the Premio arturo Bonucci International Cello Competition, third prize at Adam International Cello Competition, and first prizes in Hudson Valley Strings Competition, New England Conservatory Strings Competition and HAMS International Cello Competitions, and also went on to record an album as a reward. She also won first prize and the special award for commissioned piece at the Irving M. Klein International Strings Competition. She performed solo recitals and accompaniments at Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Trinity Center, Jordon Hall in Boston and Gardner Museum, and her live recitals were on air on the Dame Myra Hess Concerts Series in Chicago and WMFT Chicago Radio.
She was invited by The Haddonfield Symphony, Hudson Valley Symphony, Marine Symphony, Santa Cruz Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Suwon Philharmonic, Wonju Philharmonic, Incheon Philharmonic, Cheongju Philharmonic, Goonsan Philharmonic, Choongnam State Philharmonic, Daegu MBC Philharmonic and Gangnam Symphony Orchestra to perform as a soloist, restlessly continuing on her path. she was also selected for the Entire Repertoire of Beethoven series, hosted by the Seoul Arts Center, thus performing with Daejin Kim and Suwon Philharmonic, and she successfully completed the Beethoven-Brahms Series with world-renown pianist Dong-il Han, and the Korea tour recital with Taehyung Kim, a leading pianist of the next generation. She also hosted a recital with Ilya Rashkovsky, a rising star in Russia, and was also invited to the Philharmonic Festival to play with Cheongju Philharmonic, which solidified her ground as a soloist.
Minji Kim was the first Asian to serve as the associate concertmaster of Reina Sofia Orchestra, Spain, led by Lorin Mazel, and she also served as the concertmaster at the Seoul Arts Center Festival Orchestra. Currently 38-years-old, she is teaching at the Seoul National University as a professor of instrumental music and performing as the concertmaster of Cellistar Cello Ensemble and a member of OPUS Ensemble.
