국립합창단(예술감독:윤의중)은 우리나라 합창음악의 전문성과 예술성 추구를 위해 1973년에 창단된 전문 합창단의 효시로서, 본격적인 합창예술운동을 위한 선두주자이자 합창음악발전의 중추적 역할을 담당해 온 한국 최고의 프로합창단이자 세계 최고의 전문합창단이다. 2000년에 문화체육관광부 산하 예술단체로 독립, 재단법인으로 재발족하여 매년 5회의 정기연주회와 60회 정도의 기획공연, 지방연주, 특별연주, 해외연주, 오페라 등 다양한 공연을 진행하고 있다.
합창의 대중화와 합창음악의 예술적 수준을 향상시키며 한국 음악, 특히 한국 성악계의 발전에 공헌하고 있는 국립합창단은 현재 한국에서 불리는 바흐의 마태·요한 수난곡, 브람스의 독일 레퀴엠, 까르미나 부라나, 엘리아, 천지창조, 메시아 등 유명 정통 합창곡들을 대한민국에 처음으로 소개하였다. 이에 다양한 레퍼토리를 가지고 있는 국립합창단은 매년 새로운 공연을 선보이며 합창음악의 본보기가 되고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 한국합창곡 개발과 더불어 한국적 특성과 정감을 표출하는 창법, 해석법의 정립 등에 힘을 기울여 한국합창음악 발전에 큰 업적을 남기고 있다.
국립합창단은 합창의 대중화와 합창음악의 예술적 수준을 향상시킴은 물론 더 나아가 한국의 성악발전에 지대한 업적을 남기고 있다. 현재의 연주역량은 세계 유수합창단과 어깨를 나란히 할 만큼 최고의 수준에 이르고 있어 유럽, 미국, 러시아, 일본, 중국 등의 세계무대에서 그 진가를 발휘하고 있다. 국립합창단이 배출한 합창 지휘자들은 국내 합창운동의 새로운 전기를 만드는 주역으로 부상했으며, 국립합창단에 몸담았던 성악가들은 오늘날 오페라 무대와 대학 강단에서 후학을 양성하고 있다. 현재는 10대 윤의중 예술감독이 이끌고 있다.
The National Chorus of Korea (N.C.K)
The National Chorus of Korea (N.C.K), the country's first professional chorus and choral leader, was founded in 1973 in order to pursue the professional and artistic aspects of choral singing.
The N.C.K has elevated Korean choral music from an amateur to professional level, which has served as the motivation for developing the chorus to become one of the world's greatest vocal music groups. The members of the chorus have greatly contributed to the field of vocal music in Korea.
The National Chorus of Korea has introduced a wealth of famous choral repertoire to Korea, such as Bach's "St. Matthew Passion" and "St. John Passion", along with a wide variety of repertoire, extending from the Renaissance to Contemporary Periods. The chorus has garnered many achievements within the choral art in Korea. The chorus has developed new Korean choral works that express distinct vocal and musical styles portraying many of the special characteristics of Korean culture, alongside interpretations of other various styles of music. Additionally, numerous achievements have been accomplished by the chorus, such as traveling and performing for provincial concerts, subscription concerts, special concerts, and opera. The chorus has been invited to Europe, the United States, Russia, China, and Japan, providing the chorus the opportunity to become more globalized through the experience of performing abroad. Currently, the chorus is being led by 10th Artistic director, Yoon Euijoong.
윤의중, 합창지휘
국립합창단의 제10대 예술감독 겸 상임지휘자 윤의중은 뛰어난 음악성과 세밀하고 정확한 지휘로 감동적이고 세련된 합창을 만들어내는 대한민국 최정상급 합창지휘자로 평가 받고 있다. 어릴 때부터 음악적인 환경에서 자라나 피아노와 바이올린을 시작하였으며, 예원, 서울예고와 서울대학교 음악대학 기악과를 졸업하고, 도미하여 University of Cincinnati 음악 대학원에서 미국합창 음악계의 거장 Dr. Rivers로부터 본격적인 합창지휘수업을 받았다. 유학시절 Cincinnati Renaissance Consort와 CCM Concert Choir의 단원과 부지휘자로 수년간 다양한 합창경험을 쌓으며 많은 레퍼토리를 직접 연주하였고, 귀국 후에 성남시립합창단, 부천시립합창단, 울산시립합창단, 부산시립합창단, 대구시립합창단, 포항시립합창단, 창원시립합창단, 마산시립합창단, 김해시립합창단, 제주시립합창단, 수원시립합창단 등 수많은 프로합창단을 객원 지휘하였다.
2005년부터 2015년까지 10년간 창원시립합창단의 예술감독 및 상임지휘자로 재임하며 획기적인 레퍼토리와 수준 높은 공연으로 창원시립합창단을 일약 최고의 시립합창단으로 성장시켜 창원 합창연합회로부터 “창원합창인의 상” 을 수상하였으며 창원 그랑프리 경연대회와 합창제를 성공적으로 개최하고 합창 지휘자 아카데미와 세미나를 통하여 창원지역 아마추어 합창단과 중, 고등학교 청소년합창단의 발전에 큰 기여를 하였으며 국제적으로도 왕성한 활동을 하였다. 2004년에는 Salt Lake City에서 실시한 International Women’s Chorale Festival에 초청받아 공연과 세미나를 하였고, 2005년에는 Minneapolis 에서 열린 International Boy’s and Men’s Choir Festival 에서 한국인 최초로 객원지휘자로 초청받아 세계 각 국에서 선발 된 500여명의 연합 합창단을 지휘하였으며, 2006년 3월에는 덴마크에 있는 Herning 시의 Man’s & Boy’s Choir에 객원지휘자로 초청받아 정기연주를 지휘하였다. 이후에도 윤의중은 수원시립합창단의 예술감독 및 상임지휘자로서 다양한 장르의 깊이 있고 세련된 합창음악으로 수원시민들에게 사랑받았다.
지휘자 윤의중은 한세대학교 합창 지휘과 교수 및 학부장으로 역임하여 후학양성에 힘썼으며, 현재 국립합창단의 예술감독 및 상임지휘자로서 다양한 장르의 깊이 있고 세련된 합창음악으로 국립합창단이 한국을 대표하는 최고의 합창단으로 자리매김하여 세계무대에서 한국 합창음악의 우수성을 널리 알릴 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 다하고 있다.
Yoon Euijoong, Conductor
In November 2017, conductor Yoon Euijoong was inaugurated as the Artistic Director of the National Chorus of Korea. With his great sense of musicality and exquisite conducting, he is one of the leading conductors of choral music in Korea. Growing up in a musical environment, conductor Yoon Euijoong started to learn piano and violin at an early age. He studied at Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and has graduated from Seoul National University as a violin performance major. Yoon Euijoong also studied at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music for his masters and doctoral degrees in choral conducting. He was mentored by Dr. Rivers, one of the greatest maestros in choral conducting. While he was studying abroad, Yoon Euijoong was a member and assistant conductor in the Cincinnati Renaissance Consort and the CCM Concert Choir, upon which he built his chorale experiences by performing varieties of repertoires. After returning, he conducted in many different city chorales such as Seongnam, Bucheon, Ulsan, Busan, Daegu, Pohang, Changwon, Masan, Jeju, Gimhae, and Suwon. He also conducted in other professional choirs as a guest conductor.
Since 2005, Yoon Euijoong has been serving as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Changwon City Chorale, the largest city chorale in Korea for 10 years. He has successfully conducted many concerts of a variety of genres from classical to pop, making the Changwon City Chorale accessible and popular to multiple demographics. With his great leadership abilities, the Changwon City Chorale was awarded the title of “Choir of Changwon” at the Choral Federation of Changwon. Yoon Euijoong was also hosted by the Changwon Grand Prix. Furthermore, he has contributed widely for Changwon’s amateur and youth choirs through many choral conducting academies. With his achievements, Yoon Euijoong later on became the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Suwon City Chorale. Because of his exquisite musicality, he was loved by the citizens of Suwon.
Yoon Euijoong is also very active internationally. In 2004, he was invited to the International Choral Festival in Salt Lake City to teach in seminars and to perform. In 2005, he was the first in Korea to be invited to the International Boys’ and Mens’ Choir in Minneapolis as a guest conductor for the 500 choir members who were chosen globally. In 2006, he was invited to Herning, Denmark as a guest conductor for the Mens’ and Boys’ Choir. He was also invited as a judge for the Choir Olympics in Germany in 2004, the Choir Olympics in Austria in 2008, the Choir Games in China in 2010, the Choir Olympics in Cincinnati in 2012, the Choral Summit by the IFCM in Beijing in 2012, and was invited as a jurist and lecturer in 2014 for the National Ecclesiastical Choir Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the 2nd Singapore International Choral Festival in 2015.
Conductor Yoon Euijoong has made many efforts by training choral conducting to students at Hansei University as the dean and professor. He is now the Artistic Conductor and the Executive Conductor at the National Chorus of Korea and is putting forth great efforts to show the talent of Korea’s choral music to the world.
